How the proposed Lower Thames Crossing affects Chalk Village
Both the Eastern Southern Link (ESL) and the Western Southern Link (WSL) roads if built would pass within 150m of the closest properties in Chalk causing increased traffic noise and air pollution. Both route proposals would cut the villages Church (St Mary's) off from its congregation. If the proposed junction on the A226 were constructed this would provide a new access from the proposed crossing into Gravesend Town Center from the east creating a busy 'Rat Run' on a route that is already congested at busy times.
Watch local historian Christoph Bull talk about the devastation these proposals will on Chalk.
