From 18 November 2025, Companies House is introducing mandatory identity verification for all company directors and persons with significant control (PSCs).
This is part of the UK government’s ongoing Companies House reform to help tackle economic crime, increase transparency, and ensure that only verified individuals can manage and control companies in the UK.
All company directors and PSCs must complete a 2-step verification process by their due date:
Verify your identity (either through GOV.UK One Login or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider – ACSP).
Obtain your Companies House personal code and provide it for each role or company you hold.
Without this verification:
You cannot file your company’s confirmation statement after 18 November 2025.
Your company may be in breach of Companies House regulations.
Directors and the company may face penalties or prosecution for non-compliance.
Mandatory compliance – It’s a legal requirement under the updated Companies Act.
Protects your business – Helps prevent identity fraud and illegal company takeovers.
Transparency and trust – Verified directors build credibility with customers, suppliers, and partners.
